Hours after Renee Nicole Good — a 37-year-old mother of three who had moved to Minneapolis last year from Missouri — was killed by an ICE agent, thousands of people gathered in the neighborhood where she died to honor her. She had just dropped off her six-year-old child at school with her partner when she encountered ICE trucks and SUVs and was surrounded by agents.

On June 27, 2025, Rep. Melissa Hortman was the first woman in Minnesota history to lie in state at the Capitol, along with her husband Mark Hortman and their golden retriever, Gilbert.

Minnesota Women’s Press Wins Five State Media Awards
Creative director Sarah Whiting won three honors for photography, and publisher/editor Mikki Morrissette won two recognitions for writing.


For 2025 coverage, Minnesota Women’s Press earned a community leadership award, three photography awards, and four editorial awards, including for coverage of social issues and for our Spring 2025 “Know Your Rights” special section supported by Unidos MN. Our publisher was named Journalist of the Year by Violence Free Minnesota for gender-based violence coverage.
