I make paintings that explore the relationship between our bodies and minds, and how consciousness is held in the spaces we are physically present. At the beginning of the 2020 pandemic lockdown, I began reflecting on the relationship between the natural boundaries of a canvas and the experience I was having alone in a single room, and how these things parallel. I strive to capture the deep emotions I felt during a time of isolation by painting abstract figures using bold lines and color blocking. The figures are confined to empty spaces in dynamic but limited positions. Their feet root them to their present reality, and their hands are outlets of connection and communication. These figures interact with a red sun, a physical manifestation of their thoughts and feelings.
