Why Ambassadors Matter Right Now
Minnesota Women’s Press reaches more than 40,000 readers each month and serves one of the most civically engaged audiences in the state. Our challenge is not attention. It is sustainability.
Ambassadors help turn trust into lasting support by inviting people into membership, sharing stories that matter, and opening doors to aligned partners. This work strengthens MWP’s independence and keeps our journalism accountable to community rather than institutions.
People are far more likely to support independent media when invited by someone they trust.
What Ambassadors Do
Ambassadors participate in ways that fit their interests, capacity, and networks
Membership Ambassadors: Grow recurring membership support by personally inviting a small number of people to join.
- Personally invite friends, colleagues, or networks to become members
- Share a short, values-based script tied to a theme you care about
- Help MWP reach membership goals (2,000 by year-end-2026)
Campaign Ambassadors: Support specific and occasional campaigns, such as fundraising or special editorial themes like Violence Prevention or Voting Guides.
- Make a small number of direct, personal asks
- Share a specific campaign link or message
- Activate support during high-impact windows
Conversation Ambassador: Host informal discussions in your circle related to MWP stories that resonate, inspire, or prompt reflections or a desire to engage. This relates to our new Talk & Do series, but is open-ended based on what stories resonate with you.
- We can offer suggestions of stories past, present, or future that might be related to your interests.
- We can offer simple discussion guide question prompts if desired. Samples from 2025: Mankato on caregiving, Winona on housing
- We can eventually connect the dots with other statewide groups for collective conversation if there is overlapping interest.
Network Ambassadors: Open doors to partnerships, underwriting, or new community connections.
- Introduce MWP to aligned organizations, funders, or businesses
- Flag potential underwriters or sponsors
- Help MWP enter new rooms and conversations
There are no quotas, no cold outreach, and no pressure to do anything that doesn’t feel authentic.
What Ambassadors Receive
- Scripts and talking points as needed
- Invitations to forums, briefings, and participatory moments
- Recognition as part of the MWP Ambassador community
- Badass tote, archival issues, and other gifts from our 40th celebration
Ambassadors are insiders, not promoters.
Minnesota Women’s Press has been community-supported since 1985. Ambassadors help ensure this work remains independent, inclusive, and rooted in lived experience for the next generation.
This is shared stewardship, not charity.
