What’s for Dinner? A Homestyle Cooking Class Series with Amalia

April 17, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

- $45

For Guatemalans, tamales mean home, closeness, and celebration. During preparation and eating, tamales bring families alike together.
Join us for a traditional Guatemalan Tamalada, a tamale-making party. During this 2-hour class and cultural experience, learn tamale-making shortcuts, build a tamale pantry, and expand on your tamale repertoire. On the menu: Tamales Colorados, red chicken and pork tamales in banana leaves; Tamalitos de Chipilín con Queso y Crema Acida; Chipilin leaf and cheese mini tamales in corn husks with sour cream; and Tamalitos de Elote con Crema Dulce, sweet corn and butter tamales with sweet cream. Paired with Chocolate Caliente, artisan chocolate hot beverage.

A Zoom link, recipes, and special instructions will be sent to registrants two days prior to prepare for the class. Observe, or follow along and cook with Amalia, if you like.

Amalia is a professional chef, graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, born and raised in Guatemala, and author of the nine-time award-winning book Amalia’s Guatemalan Kitchen-Gourmet Cuisine with a Cultural Flair (a sequel to this book will be published this year). Amalia has taught at kitchens in the Twin Cities, Guatemala, and beyond.
