Walking Tour: Cake Walk – Edina’s Journey from Settlement to Suburbs

Learn the history of Edina’s growth from flour millers to “cake eaters,” and how one of the first planned suburban neighborhoods in the United States transitioned from an agricultural settlement to a vibrant local community. We’ll discuss African American berry farmer Charles Yancey, the racial and economic exclusion of the Country Club neighborhood, and Edina’s efforts to diversity. Organized by Hennepin History Museum. led by Edina residents and veteran historic interpreters Fred Keller and Dan Rooney. 90 minutes in length; 2.5 miles of uneven walking surfaces.
