For the occasion of Sophia Chai’s current exhibition at Rochester Art Center, Sight Lines, Chai has turned a separate room overlooking downtown Rochester at the Art Center into a camera obscura. Rochester-based artist, Sophia Chai will give a presentation about her work and studio practice. Since Chai turned her studio space in Chicago into a camera obscura in 2002, her approach to picture making has been directly inspired by that experience of being inside a camera. Before Chai’s artist talk, attendees are invited to step inside the camera obscura to experience the light and movement of the city projected inside the darkened room.
