Artist Talk & Demo: The Art of Korean Paper

August 18, 2021 @ 4:00 pm 6:00 pm

Join us for an artist talk and demonstration with Aimee Lee, an artist, papermaker, writer, and the leading hanji (Korean handmade paper) researcher and practitioner in North America. While studying papermaking in the US, Aimee noticed a gap in paper history and decided to research, learn, and teach Korean papermaking to fill that gap. Aimee is a pioneer papermaker in so many ways. She studied hanji with men who doubted her ability and her strength because she is a woman. Later, she literally wrote the book on hanji (Hanji Unfurled)and opened the first-ever American hanji studio. Aimee will show examples of her artwork featuring hanji in her presentation and demonstrate the ancient papercraft of noyeokgae, known colloquially as jiseung, the process of cording and twining hanji.

Be sure to register in advance! Registration ends 8/15 at midnight: https://www.mnbookarts.org/artist-talk-and-demo-the-art-of-korean-paper/
