Join Jazz and R&B vocalist Katia Cardenas, deemed “the fastest rising star in the Twin Cities jazz scene” (Jazz Police) in celebrating the holiday season with a show featuring swing, R&B and Latin arrangements of her favorite holiday songs, with delightful stories of family holiday memories. Katia will play two 75-minute shows at 6:30 and 9pm at kj’s hideaway in downtown St. Paul, featuring Ted Olsen (bass), Joe Strachan (piano) and Beth Varela (drums).
About Katia Cardenas
Specializing in jazz, soul, and r&b, Katia is a gifted vocalist with a passion for bringing energy and soul to her performance. She brings emotional authenticity to every song, and strives to bring people together through the universal experience of music. Her influences include Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King and Eva Cassidy, to name a few. She is currently performing across the Twin Cities, under her own name, with some of this town’s top jazz and r&b instrumentalists. Katia has been performing locally and nationally since 2014 at respected venues, including Dakota Jazz Club, Crooners Lounge, Vieux Carré and Jazz Central Studios, and released her debut EP, “I’ll Be Seeing You” in June 2016.
Making music in the Twin Cities has been a family tradition since her father, Mark Cardenas, played keyboards in “The Time” and appeared in the iconic Prince film “Purple Rain.” Katia has been described as having a “natural, soulful sound” Rhythm & Grooves), and “the hardest working singer in town” (Jazz88 – KBEM).
