ART: “Flag”

I don’t have a favorite color

but if I did

it would not be red

Angry, bloody, hate-filled red

I don’t have a favorite color

but if I did

it would not be blue

Soggy, watery, tearful blue

I don’t have a favorite color

but if I did

it would not be white

Superior, haughty, isolationist white

My color instead might be 

browns and greens 

intermingling and inseparable

the loam of the earth

My color might be 

misty as dusk

changing each second

an impossible array

My color might be 

breath exhaled out

translucent and transient

A quiet wind

My color is here 

but not here

Disappearing as sleep fades

A not-quite memory
