Act on poverty
I cannot imagine how a family of four can live on $22,314. [ThinkAboutIt, MWP, Nov. 2011] I am a 65-year-old woman living in a diverse HUD (section 8) community and am lucky to have just over half of that to live on-at least for now. Many here, including new immigrants from Africa and other countries, deaf and disabled folks and those who may have moved here from the streets, do with much less. We have many helping agencies involved, and great services in the building, but what will happen as cutbacks continue? Think of trying to live on $600 a month as one of my neighbors does-I can't. And some wonder what all the fuss is about regarding the Occupy movement!

This past September I picked up my very first copy of Minnesota Women's Press at WomenVenture. I was impressed and touched by all the women's stories that told of struggles, accomplishments and fortitude. I plan on sharing MWP with my family and friends. I am hooked!
Thank you, too, MWP for the terrific gift of History Theatre tickets! Stacie Niesche, Rochester, MN
