Five ongoing reading groups meet at Minnesota Women's Press each month, bringing women together to read and discuss a wide range of writing by women. We've been sponsoring groups for the past two decades, with more than 3,000 women participating.We welcome new voices and invite you to join one of the two available groups.
Earth (This group reads and discusses books that help members think about their connection to the earth and living things; it alternates monthly between fiction and nonfiction.) Third Sundays, 9:30-noon. Next meeting: Sept. 19. Read and discuss: Every Day Is a Good Day: Reflections by Contemporary Indigenous Women, by Wilma Mankiller. Author and activist Mankiller explores the thoughts of 19 Native women on questions such as the meaning of spirituality, the importance of sovereignty, and what it means to be an indigenous woman today.
Sunday Novels (new in paperback) Third Sundays, 2-4 p.m. Next meeting: Sept. 19. Read and discuss: The Road Home, by Rose Tremain. Lev, a 42-year-old widower with a five-year-old daughter is also one of Eastern Europe's long-term unemployed who leaves his Russian village and his daughter find work in London.
The following groups are ungoing, but are currently filled. Keep watching for openings. Coyotes (science fiction by women) Third Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Rock (This group grows more raucous with time. Laughter and irreverence play a big part in their approach to reading.) Third Sundays, 9:30-noon. Weavers (This group weaves together a variety of mainly fiction by mostly contemporary authors with diverse styles.) Third Sundays, 9:30-noon.
