Collegeville, Minn., Dec. 30, 2016-Jan. 2, 2017
This is our annual New Year's gathering, where we talk about books, walk in the snowy quiet, enjoy the company of kindred spirits, put life on hold for a couple of days, and rejuvenate for the coming year.
READING: Theme and books to be announced.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Once again, we'll gather at The Episcopal House of Prayer, a peaceful retreat center on the edge of the St. John's University campus in Collegeville, 80 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.
The one-story building (no steps) offers single and double rooms. There are two bathrooms at the end of the hall (three toilets, two showers). All rooms have sinks. There's a comfortable living room, and dining room, large kitchen with refrigerator that we can use, and anawesome separate quiet space for reflection. Meals will be prepared for us, but we will be responsible for setting up and cleaning up. This is a smoke-free environment.
The campus contains nine lakes and ponds, and there are miles of trails through the adjacent woods.
THE GROUP: We accept no more than 14 readers, and our group will be the only one at the retreat center. Some readers come with a friend, and some come alone-everyone leaves with a new group of friends.
HIGHLIGHTS: In addition to lively book discussions, we'll watch a film or two, related to our reading; say good-bye to the old year and greet the new year with our traditional evening of fun; play games and do puzzles; laugh a lot; eat well. There will be quiet time for walking, reading, visiting, taking a nap, or just kicking back.
SCHEDULE: The retreat will begin with supper on Dec. 30 and end after lunch on Jan. 2.
FEE: The cost of the 4-day, 3-night session is $450. This covers room, all meals, book group facilitation, New Year's champagne (and non-alcoholic bubbly). It does not include books or your transportation to the retreat.
TO REGISTER: Send $100 deposit, along with your name, address, phone number and email, to the address below, or call Fariba (651-646-3968 X 312) to register using a credit card. Balance will be due Nov. 18. Registrations will be accepted in the order received.
FACILITATOR: Facilitator will be Mollie Hoben, one of the Founding Publishers of Minnesota Women's Press. She has facilitated MWP book groups, Reading Retreats and Book Groups on the Road for 20 years.
