Honoring pottery

The late Amy Sabrina (Myers), who died in 2013, worked on her 35-acre Sweetgrass Farm in Dalbo, Minn., where she made pottery that wittily celebrated her love of nature. This exhibition brings together examples from her lifetime of work. Free. Reception May 12, 6-8 p.m. See website for gallery hours. Persistence in movies

"Funny Girl" (May 4) kicks off a four-week series in May, "The Power of Persistence: Unwavering Women in Cinema," about the life of famed early 1900s entertainer Fanny Brice, as played by Barbra Streisand. Other movies in the series include: "Wait Until Dark" (May 11), a psychological thriller starting Audrey Hepburn as a young blind woman; "Fried Green Tomatoes" (May 18), which was based on Fannie Flagg's novel about family, aging, lesbianism and the dehumanizing effects of racism; and "The Color Purple" (May 25), based on Alice Walker's book about the problems faced by African American women in the early 20th century. $10. 7:30 p.m. Heights Theater, 3951 Central Ave. NE, Mpls. Women over 50

PRIME productions is a new professional theater company in the Twin Cities featuring the performers and stories of women over the age of 50. Their first production launches with "Little Wars," a fictional meeting of Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Lillian Hellman, Dorothy Parker, Agatha Christie and the mysterious American woman that ties them all together. Backstage with "Serial"

"Serial" co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder launched the podcast in 2014 that became the fastest to reach 5 million downloads. They are some of the creative force behind the new "S-Town" podcast and "This American Life." Intimate Apparel

An African-American seamstress in the early 1900s follows her long-distance romance with a worker on the Panama Canal, and friendships with a prostitute and Jewish tailor. Paddling, Mushing and Woodshedding

Three diverse memoirs by women describe their adventures in the wilderness, brought together in one night of readings. "Paddling to Winter," by Julie Buckles, chronicles her year-long canoe honeymoon. "Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube," by Blair Braverman, is about her training for the 1,100-mile Iditarod dogsled race. "Shelter: Off the Grid in the Mostly Magnetic North," by Sarah Stonich, is a newly single mom who dragged her teenage city-kid son north to build a writing retreat in a 40-acre wilderness. 7 p.m. Common Good Books, 38 S.
