BCT presents ART
Bloomington Center for the Arts
1800 West Old Shakopee Rd
A simple white canvas. A 200,000 francs pricetag. The real cost: Decades-long friendships. This is the world of Yasmina Reza’s Art. The story revolves around three friends who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when one of them buys an expensive piece of abstract art. The play asks the question “What is art?” but this dramatic comedy is as much about friendship as it is about art. Art is so powerful because there is something with which everyone in the audience can relate. The winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and winner of the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, Newsweek called it "…a nonstop cross-fire of crackling language, serious issues of life and art expressed in outbursts that sound like Don Rickles with a degree from the Sorbonne…”
