Persistence in movies

"Funny Girl" (May 4) kicks off a four-week series in May, "The Power of Persistence: Unwavering Women in Cinema," about the life of famed early 1900s entertainer Fanny Brice, as played by Barbra Streisand. Women over 50

PRIME productions is a new professional theater company in the Twin Cities featuring the performers and stories of women over the age of 50. Their first production launches with "Little Wars," a fictional meeting of Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Lillian Hellman, Dorothy Parker, Agatha Christie and the mysterious American woman that ties them all together. Backstage with "Serial"

"Serial" co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder launched the podcast in 2014 that became the fastest to reach 5 million downloads. They are some of the creative force behind the new "S-Town" podcast and "This American Life." Three diverse memoirs by women describe their adventures in the wilderness, brought together in one night of readings. "Paddling to Winter," by Julie Buckles, chronicles her year-long canoe honeymoon. "Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube," by Blair Braverman, is about her training for the 1,100-mile Iditarod dogsled race.
