It is not a secret that women-led businesses tend to be invisible to those who invest. Here are some numbers, compiled by the women behind an upcoming ConnectUp! summit.

4 percent

The percentage of overall venture capital
investment that went to women-led businesses in
the Twin Cities in 2016 (Source: Minne Inno)

2.19 percent

The percentage nationally given that same year
to women-founded startups (Source: Fortune)

24 out of 10,238 (or .2 percent)

The number given nationwide to black women
founders from 2012-2014 (Source: Wired)

ConnectUP! aims to fill these gaps of trust and capital by bringing together investors and curated entrepreneurs that are from marginalized communities — including women, people of color, LGBTQ and Greater Minnesota.

The interactive summit will be held March 14-15, in conjunction with the Minnesota Council on Foundation conference at Radisson Blu in Minneapolis. It is produced by Y. Elaine Rasmussen, CEO of Social Impact Strategies Group. The keynote speaker will be Connie Evans, President & CEO of Association for Enterprise Opportunity, which focuses on research, innovation, and advocacy for small businesses.
